Reliefweb is seeking a dynamic and experienced Humanitarian Communications Specialist to join our team in 2023/2024. As a Humanitarian Communications Specialist, you will play a crucial role in disseminating critical information, raising awareness, and building engagement for humanitarian initiatives globally. This position requires a strategic communicator with a deep understanding of humanitarian issues and the ability to convey complex information in a compelling and accessible manner.
- Content Development: Create engaging and impactful content, including press releases, articles, blog posts, and social media updates, to effectively communicate Reliefweb's humanitarian efforts and initiatives.
- Media Relations: Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers to secure coverage and amplify Reliefweb's message across various platforms.
- Social Media Management: Develop and implement social media strategies to increase awareness and engagement, utilizing platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
- Crisis Communication: Act as a spokesperson for Reliefweb during humanitarian crises, ensuring accurate and timely information dissemination to the public, partners, and stakeholders.
- Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, including program managers and field staff, to gather information and insights for effective communication strategies.
- Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitor the impact of communication efforts, analyze data, and adjust strategies to maximize reach and effectiveness.
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, International Relations, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in humanitarian communications or a related field.
- Proven track record of successful media relations, crisis communication, and content creation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Proficiency in other languages is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
- Familiarity with the humanitarian sector and a deep understanding of global issues.
