About the Chevening Scholarships 2027-28
Chevening Scholarships are UK Government-funded awards for emerging leaders who want to complete a one-year taught master’s degree at a UK university. The official application timeline for the 2027-28 cycle lists applications as opening on 4 August 2026 and closing on 6 October 2026 at 11:00 UTC. Successful scholars are expected to begin their studies in the United Kingdom in September or October 2027.
The programme is designed for applicants who already have an undergraduate degree, relevant post-graduation work experience and a clear plan for how they will use their UK education after returning home. Chevening is not limited to one subject area. Applicants can choose from eligible one-year taught master’s courses offered by UK universities, provided the selected courses meet Chevening’s course requirements.
What the Scholarship Covers
A standard Chevening Scholarship provides broad financial support for the scholar’s study period in the UK. According to Chevening, the award includes payment of tuition fees, economy travel to and from the scholar’s country of residence, an arrival allowance, the cost of the scholar’s entry-clearance visa application, a departure allowance, a contribution of up to £75 for tuberculosis testing where required, a travel top-up allowance and a monthly personal living allowance. The monthly stipend rate varies depending on whether the scholar studies inside or outside London and is reviewed periodically.
Alongside financial support, scholars join the wider Chevening network and can take part in programme activities and networking opportunities involving fellow scholars, alumni and partner organisations.
Who Can Apply
Applicants must be citizens of a Chevening-eligible country or territory. They must commit to returning to their country of award for at least two years after the scholarship ends. Chevening also requires at least two years of work experience gained after completing the undergraduate degree, equivalent to 2,800 hours.
An applicant must hold an undergraduate degree that qualifies them for entry to a UK master’s programme. The undergraduate studies must have been completed at least two years before the Chevening application deadline. Applicants also need to select three different eligible UK university courses and, later in the process, obtain an unconditional offer from at least one of those choices by the date stated in the official timeline.
Course and Study Requirements
Chevening Scholarships normally support full-time, one-year taught master’s programmes in the United Kingdom. They are not intended for undergraduate degrees, PhDs, distance-learning courses or programmes that run longer than the permitted Chevening study period. Applicants should therefore check the course finder and individual university entry requirements before finalising their three course choices.

How to Apply
Applications are submitted through Chevening’s online application system. Start by selecting your country or territory and the relevant Chevening award, then complete the online registration and application. Before submitting, review the eligibility rules, prepare your course choices and make sure your work experience is calculated according to Chevening’s requirements.
Applicants who progress to later stages will need supporting documents such as identification, their undergraduate degree certificate and references according to the deadlines in the official process. Because Chevening uses country-specific award pages, applicants should always confirm that their country or territory is eligible before starting an application.
Before You Submit
Use the official Chevening guidance to check every eligibility condition rather than relying only on a general scholarship summary. Pay particular attention to the work-experience rule, the requirement to return home after the scholarship, the three eligible course choices and the final submission time. The application system closes at the published deadline, so submitting earlier can reduce the risk of last-minute technical problems.
